How WattShare EV Charger Sharing Works

Trust-first EV charger sharing in Canada

Hosting is personal. We focus on safety & trust concerns like shared driveway liability, secure payments, and smart EV charging controls, so hosting feels predictable.

Clear booking rules (you stay in control)

Set availability, instructions, and pricing. You decide when your home charger is bookable.

    Secure payments

Payments are processed for charging sessions and orders (we don’t store full card numbers).

Insurance & liability: know the rules

EV charger sharing insurance and shared driveway liability vary by homeowner and situation. Start by reading the terms and privacy policy before you host or book.

Interested in incentives? We publish educational resources on topics like carbon credit and government programs (including CFR) and “best EV charger for hosting ROI”, without promising outcomes, since eligibility depends on your setup. Read the ROI + incentives guide.

Rent out my EV charger: make money from EV charging

If you already have an EV Charger, you can list it and maximize income from EV charging by sharing it with neighbours when you’re not using it. You can also earn value just by connecting your charger with the WattShare network for eligible programs that require usage data (eligibility and rules vary by incentive).

Charging at home only? See get paid to charge your EV at home (Open-Earn, no smart charger). For stacking P2P income with carbon credits, read Maximize EV charger ROI.

How much can I earn sharing my EV charger?

Earnings depend on your location (e.g. Toronto vs smaller cities), availability, pricing, and demand. Start with a listing, then adjust based on bookings.

Is it safe to share my home EV charger?

Safety comes from clear instructions, predictable booking rules, and secure payments. For insurance and shared driveway liability, review your coverage and the platform terms before hosting.

Is there an app to rent out my driveway for EV charging?

Look for an app that supports host controls (availability, pricing, instructions) and runs payments through a trusted processor. Many hosts describe this as “renting out a driveway”, but the key is a clear booking flow around the EV charger.

Condo & apartment EV charging solutions (multi-unit residential / MUD)

For property managers and condo boards: enable EV charging for apartments in Canada with shared EV infrastructure, scheduling, and EV charging management software, without a one-size-fits-all approach.

Avoid electrical panel upgrades for EV charging

Many buildings want to scale charging without disruptive upgrades. Load management for EV charging and scheduling can help match demand to existing capacity.

ESG reporting for property managers (and carbon credit reporting)

Standardized session data helps with audit-ready reporting. If you’re exploring carbon credit reporting for buildings, requirements vary by program and hardware.

EV charging management software for shared infrastructure

The goal is predictable access: reservations, access rules, and utilization insights for multi-unit residential EV charging.

Yes, but we do not recommend using Watt Share for one-off charges away from home. In practice, charger sharing for (destination charging) is a very different process and is seldom needed.
